141 Teams Set to Compete at 2014 SGI

May 10, 2014

The Santa Clara Sporting Club is hosting their 4th Annual Sporting Girls Invitational Tournament from May 24th-26th, with 141 teams from Northern California and Nevada descending into Santa Clara County to compete over Memorial Weekend. This year teams from Nevada, South Lake Tahoe and San Luis Obispo are traveling to compete against some of the strongest elite girls soccer teams from Northern California. The tournament participation rate has doubled in just four years thanks to a combination of competitive teams, quality soccer fields, high-end referees and a smooth running schedule. Games will take place at the Santa Clara Youth Soccer Park and the Morgan Hill Soccer Complex. Santa Clara Sporting has partnered with Marriott International Hotels to provide traveling teams with special accomodation packages to help offset the high cost of attending soccer tournaments.

"It's been a labor of love building this tournament to support girls soccer here in Santa Clara," said SGI Tournament Director Demitri Cacoyannis. "But we have a dedicated group of volunteers supporting this event year-round and have bigger plans for the future."
