Currently, we practice every Tuesday and Thursday at the Santa Clara Youth Soccer Park from 5-6:30pm. Keven Azevedo is the Head Coach, and Matt Heintz is the Assistant Coach/Team Manager. In late September, we traveled to Clovis for the Cal Odyssey Academy Cup. We placed 4th after Saturday’s pool play to advance to the semifinals. We fell to Athletico Santa Rosa 2-0 in a very tight game on Sunday morning. The boys didn’t want to play a meaningless consolation game in 100 degree heat, but we talked about putting in a good effort to go home with a good taste in our mouths. We defeated San Ramon Rangers 2-0 to leave with a victory after the morning’s bitter defeat. The boys are learning what it will take to travel into all kinds of weather conditions and hotel situations and still come out and play hard.
Summer 2009 - We had a very successful Summer tournament season reaching at least the semifinals of every tournament that we entered.
In July, we reached the finals of the Elk Grove Everton Cup by defeating the host team 1-0. We fell to the East Diablo Cyclones Gold in the finals on penalty kicks 4-3 after tying 2-2 in regulation and overtime in 105 degree heat. Good work under tough circumstances.
In August, we reached the semifinals of the prestigious Santa Clara Sporting Invitational, the #8 ranked tournament in the US. In pool play, we defeated Marin Arsenal and South Valley United and tied Diablo FC to win our bracket. In the quarterfinals, we defeated Modesto Ajax 2-0, to advance to the semifinals to face our rivals PAC 97. We fell 4-3 in penalty kicks after tying 2-2. What a big step forward for the team defeating several teams that we had never beaten before!
Later in August, we also reached the semifinals of the Mustang Stampede, the #2 ranked tournament in Northern California. In pool play, we defeated the Mustang Galaxy and Bay Oaks Roadrunners and tied Elk Grove Everton to win our group without allowing a goal. In the semifinals, we fell 2-1 to Mustang Barcelona in a hard fought contest. We knew the team was heading in the right direction with these good wins and close losses against top competition.
Past Team Highlights:
The team was formed for fall 2005 to play U8 in the West Valley Play Through League. Matt Heintz was the head coach, and we still have 3 members from that original team.
We joined the Santa Clara Sporting Club for Spring 2006 and combined with Carlos Brasil’s 98 Sporting team to field a team that tied for first in league. Keven Azevedo trained the team a few times in Fall 2006 and became the head coach for Spring 2007. In Norcal State Cup in 2007 and 2008, the team finished 13th both seasons. In Fall 2008, we finished 3rd in District Cup losing 4-3 in penalty kicks to our rivals PAC 97 after a 0-0 tie. We then defeated Salinas Pumitas on a late goal to win 2-1 and secure 3rd place. This was an exciting finish to a season of improvement for the team!

Tryout Information
Santa Clara Sporting ’97 Boys Green- Fall (U13) tryouts will be held at our regular practices Tues/Thurs from 5-7pm at Sutter Field, 3200 Forbes Ave., Santa Clara. These will be held June 1st and 3rd, and June 8th and 10th. All prospective players are welcome to attend. For interested players that cannot attend, please contact the coaches to arrange a different time for your son to be evaluated.
