Sporting '93G Win Back-to-Back US Club Regional Titles
The Sporting ’93 Girls Team continued their dominance over Northern California with their second consecutive (2008-2009) US Club Regional Championship in Modesto. The team rolled the competition in the U15 Super Group with four victories, scoring 14 goals and only allowing 2 into their net. The Santa Clara girls defeated Placer United 2-1 in the Championship match. Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents.

Mizuki Hamada Promoted to Urawa Reds 1st Team

Mizuki Hamada who played at Santa Clara Sporting, then returned home to Japan was recently promoted to the Urawa Reds 1st Team in the Japanese Professional Soccer J-League. Mizuki is a defender who is also a member of the under 20 Japanese National Team.
2009 Sporting Invitational Champions

The 6th Annual Santa Clara Sporting Invitational Tournament came to a close today after three days of intense competition. Over 150 teams from California, Nevada, Utah, Washington, Oregon and New Mexico and Canada competed in the 2009 event. The Santa Clara Sporting and PAC clubs each walked away with three championship titles.

Santa Clara Sporting had a very strong showing last weekend at our 6th Annual Invitational Tournament with 11 teams finishing as Champions, Semi-Finalists and Quarter-Finalists. Congratulations to the Sporting ’99 Green, ’93 and ’92 Teams for keeping the Sporting Invitational Championship Cup at home after a long weekend of competition. Four other teams (’99 White, ’98, ’96 and ’94) finished as Semi-Finalists, and four teams (’00, ’98, ’95 & ’91) finished as Quarter-Finalists.

Sporting '95G are SemiFinalist at Mustang Stampede
The Sporting ’95G (U14 Team) reached the Semifinals of the Nike Mustang Stampede, Gold Division last weekend (August 8th-9th). They faced a very talented team from Southern California, the Exiles in game one. After Sporting missed several opportunities early, The Exiles countered with a few goals of their own and defeated Santa Clara 4-1.

Explosive Start for New Team
Congratulations to the Sporting ’98G White Team for their four victory, undefeated result at the 2009 Soccer-By-The Bay Tournament on August 22nd-23rd. The offense scored a total of 12 goals against strong teams from Peninsula, Stanford, San Carlos, and San Mateo while the defense allowed only 1 goal all weekend, making three of the four victories shut outs. Two PKs were blocked during the four matches, protecting victories.

Sporting Men's Team Kick-off 2009 PSL
The Santa Clara Sporting Men's Team kicks-off the 2009 Peninsula Soccer League with a game on September 20th against Real Santa Clara. The 3pm game will be held at Cubberly Field, 4000 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. Sporting is competing in the PSL along with 9 other amateur mens teams: Gordon Biersh FC, DV8-Xtreme, Grasshoppers-Major, Ajax, Shamrock Harps, Harmonie Soccer Club, Real Santa Clara, DV8-Elite, and the Palo Alto Soccer Club.

The Sporting ’93 Girls finished the 2009 SoCal Blues Cup Tournament as Finalists after loosing to the Surf White Team from San Diego in a penalty kick shoot-out on September 7th. Surf White is the #1 Ranked Team in the US in the U16 Girls Age Group.

This weekend the Sporting 93 Boys Team were in Irvine, CA for the tough NHB Cup tournament. The tournament brought together some of the most competitive teams in California for one of the last times before tournament season ends. The Santa Clara Sporting ’93G Green Team, Sporting ’94B and Sporting ’93B were crowned 2009 District 2 Cup Championship last weekend (Oct 3-4). All three teams earned their second consecutive District Cup Championships. The Sporting ’93 Girls White Team finished in 2nd place overall after playing into double overtime and loosing a close game in a penalty kick shoot-out against the MVLA Ice Breakers.
Sporting Kicks-In for G-O-A-L For Kids
Santa Clara Sporting recently participated in the G-O-A-L For Kids" project led by Jennifer Reed from Girl Scout Troop 30715 (and the Mustang Earthquakes U17 soccer team). Jennifer created this idea for her Girl Scout Gold Award Project, and collected more than 300 sets of uniforms, cleats, socks and shin guards that were all donated for an orphanage in Nicaragua.

Standout midfielder Sebastian Lletget is now playing full-time with the West Ham United youth program in London. The 17-year-old, who starred for the U.S. U17 Men’s National Team at the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Tournament earlier this year in Mexico, has left Bradenton Residency for this opportunity.
