Sporting 16 Boys Win Region IV FarWest Regional League
and State Premier League

The Santa Clara Sporting 91 Green Boys team finished in the top spot of the Region IV FarWest Regional League with a 3-1 victory over Slammers today. The boys completed the season with a 6-0-0 record qualifying them for USYS Regionals in Honolulu, Hawaii 2008. The U16 Boys also finished in the top spot of the CYSA Abronzino/State Premier League with a 8-1-1 record. Congrats Boys! - posted 11/18/2007

Men's team headed to playoffs for the CPSA

Once again coach Luis Azevedo has guided the men's team into the
playoffs for the California Premier Soccer Association (CPSA). The
CPSA is the highest amateur league in Northern California and Santa
Clara Sporting Club is consistently at the top of the league
standings. Santa Clara Sporting Club is the defending champions and
will open the playoffs against the San Francisco Glens, the runner-ups
in last years final. Luis has again meshed together a great group of
veterans with younger players to create and attractive and competitive
team. The team had the fewest goals against (21) out of 20 games in
league play and had the second highest goal difference (+25 goals) and
finished second in the league standings. Please come out to Boxer
Stadium in San Francisco on Sunday morning 10am to support the team.

Sporting '94 Boys Finish 2nd at San Ramon Cup

The Sporting '94 Boys Team finished the San Ramon Cup as
Finalists in the U13 Age Group on July 22nd behind the older '93
Juventus Wolfpack Team. Sporting won all three bracket games defeating
the Heritage Thunder (8-1), MDSL Azzuri (5-0), and WCSC Diablo White
(4-1); scoring a total of 17 goals while only allowing two into their
net. They accumulated the highest number of points of all 8 teams in

Santa Clara Sporting '90 Girls Headed to Nationals

The Santa Clara Sporting '90 girl's team improved their 2007 season record to 17-4-2 with their recent wins at the US Club Regional Tournament in Modesto on June 18th. The girls won four straight games beating the talented Athletico Madrid twice to take the Premier Group Championship. Goal keeper Kate Brenot gave-up only one goal the entire tournament which was in the final game resulting from a PK. The team, coached by Greg Quan, will be participating in the 2007 US Club National Tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the end of July. The US Club National Tournament is played along side the "Score at the Shore" College showcase tournament which is expected to host 275 college coaches. Good Luck girls! - posted 7/1/07

Sporting 95 Boys & 96 Boys Medal at 2007 Cal Cup Tournament

Congratulations to Demitri Cacoyannis's 95 Boys team, and Cesear
Sanchez's 96 Boys team for placing 1st and 2nd at the Cal Cup
Tournament held June 23rd-24th in Sacramento. The Santa Clara teams
had to compete in triple-digit Sacramento temperatures all weekend.

Sporting '93 Girls Finish 2nd at US Club Regionals

Santa Clara's U13 Girls team returned from a successful run at the US
Club Soccer Regional Tournament held in Modesto last week. The team
competed in the U13 Girls Super Group finishing the tournament with
four wins and only one loss. They scored 17 goals and only let 5 into
their net. They lost a very close championship game to San Juan by a
score of 1-2. The Sporting 93 Girls Team is one of the Top-3 teams in
their age group from Northern California, and have 4 players on the
Cal-North State ODP Team, and 6 players on the District 2 ODP Team.

Sporting 91Green Finsh as Semi-Finalists at 2007 Far West Regionals
The Sporting U15 Cal-North State Cup Championship Team traveled to Las
Vegas last weekend to compete in the USYS Region IV Championships, and
finished a successful run as Semi-Finalists. Santa Clara had to endure
some extreme conditions at the tournament, and even played one bracket
game against the New Mexico State Champs in 106 degree temperatures
midday in Las Vegas. The team is coached by Jeff Jenkins and Dan
Silva; they won two of three games in bracket play, defeated the
Arsenal Team from Utah in Quarter Finals, then lost a very close game
0-1 to Sereno White from Cal-South (eventual champions).

Sporting 93 Boys Place 2nd at 2007 Far West Regionals

The back-to-back 2006-07 Cal-North State Cup Champion Santa Clara
Sporting 93 Boys Team finished in second place at the USYS Region IV
Championships last weekend in Las Vegas. The team went undefeated
winning their five games leading-up to the Regional Championship
match. Sporting won all three bracket games, beat the Arizona State
Champs in Quarter Finals, then defeated the Nevada Team in SemiFinals.
The championship game was fiercely contested between Sporting and
X-Treme Italia from Cal-South. Between Sporting and Italia, the two
teams scored 71 goals in their 10 games leading-up to the final game.
Both teams attacked each other from the start of the game, and the
first half ended in a 3-3 stalemate. Italia was able to score another
three goals and won the game 6-3, but Sporting played exceptionally
well and should be proud of their accomplishments. Congratulations to

23 Santa Clara Sporting Players Selected for 2007 District2 ODP Player Pool

The Santa Clara Sporting Club had 23 players selected into the District ODP Player Pool selection on May 12th after two weekends of intense tryouts. With 13 players selected into the State ODP Pool last March, Sporting now has 36 athletes in the Olympic Development Program this year. Congratulations to all the players!

Santa Clara Sporting Men's Team Head to Regional Championships

The Santa Clara Sporting Club Men's team are currently sitting in first place in league play and are preparing for the Region IV Amateur Championship Finals, which will be held from May 18 to May 20 in San Diego, California. The team's coach and manager Luis Azevedo, has been hard at work trying to select the correct set of players that he will take to San Diego for the finals. This will be Santa Clara Sporting Club's eighth trip to the Regional Finals. The Region IV Amateur Championship Finals is played in a round robin format with each team playing the other teams in their group on Friday and Saturday, with the group winners playing for the championship on Sunday May, 20 at 9am. The Santa Clara Sporting Club has been selected to play in Group B along with the LA Blues (Cal. South), Lazio SC (Utah) and Colorado Sporting (Colorado). Their first game will be against Colorado Sporting (Colorado) at 3pm on Friday, May 18 followed by two games on Saturday May 19, the first at 9am versus Lazio SC (Utah) and the second at 3pm versus the LA Blues (Cal South). Group A consists of Zacatepec-Durango (Cal South), Tyneside United SC (Nevada), Rovers (Colorado) and Zanjeros (Arizona). The winner of the Region IV Amateur Championship Finals will represent the 7 Far-West states in the US National Amateur Finals in Seattle, Washington in August of this year. Sporting U15 Boys Win State Cup

The Santa Clara Sporting's U15 Boys Team won the 2007 Cal-North State Cup Championship Saturday, April 28th in Livermore, CA. Sporting defeated Santa Rosa United 3-0 in the championship game. The team finished the State Cup Tournament with a record of 6 wins and 1 tie, scoring 21 goals while only allowing 3 into their net. The team is coached by Jeff Jenkins and Dan Silva, and managed by Todd Rogers. Congratulations to the entire team and good luck at the Far West Regionals held in June. - posted 4/30

Sporting U14 Boys Finish 2nd at State Cup

The Santa Clara Sporting's U14 Boys Team finished as 2007 Cal-North State Cup Finalists on Saturday, April 28th in Livermore, CA. The team had a successful State Cup tournament winning 6 games and only loosing the final match to the Juventus Monarcas. Sporting lost some key players to injuries during the first round of games, and also competed without Sebastian Lleget, a key midfielder who was gone during the tournament competing for the US National Team and training at West Ham United. The team scored 21 goals and allowed 6 into their net during the tournament. The team is coached by Carlos Brasil and Tino Silva. Congratulations to the entire team. - posted 4/29

Sporting U14B Win Nomads Tournament

The Santa Clara Sporting U14Boys team coached by Carlos Brasil
won the prestigous Nomads Coaches Showcase Tourrnament on March 19th
in LaJolla, California. During bracket competition, Sporting defeated
the Colorado Storm 2-1, tied Canyon PSA 1-1, and crushed the RD
Renegades Blue 8-0. After winning their bracket, Sporting played the
Nomads host team for the championship title. Santa Clara won 3-2 in

13 Santa Clara Sporting Players Named to 2007 Cal-North ODP Teams

Fourteen players from four different Sporting teams were named to the
2007 Cal-North State Olympic Development Program today. The following
players from Santa Clara were selected: U13 Girls - Madison Salom,
Ana Marija Sola, Lindsay Mewes, Gabriela Ley, U14 Boys - Richie Osbourne,
Danny Flores, Gino Rivera, Zack Tahar, Sebastian Zuniga, U15 Boys - Ismail
Adam, Spencer Rogers, Andreas Silva, and Gustavo Silva. An elite group
of 80 athletes from Northern California were invited to compete in each boys
and girls age group from Under 14 to Under 17. Thirty players were selected to each
team player pool and will begin training in May. Cal-North Teams will
compete in a regional tournament in Colorado against other State ODP
teams over Memorial Weekend. A final selection of 18 players from the
pool of 30 will have the opportunity to train and compete for the US
Region IV team in Moscow, Idaho this July. Congratulations to all the

Santa Clara Sporting 93Boys Win Their Second State Cup Title

The Santa Clara Sporting 93 Boys Team won the 2006 CYSA State
Cup Championship last weekend in Livermore, CA. after defeating the
Livermore Elite Titans 3-0 in the Boys U13 Division. The team won the
State Cup title last year and are now back-to-back 2005-2006 State Cup
Champions. Seventy-one teams started the Northern California State
Wide Tournament back in January. The 93 Boys finished the tournament
undefeated with a record of 7 wins and 0 losses scoring 40 goals while
only allowing 2 in their net. The team is coached by John and Kevin
Azevedo. The team is now preparing to compete in the Far West
