They defeated Crossfire Premier 3-0, Pateadores White 2-0, FC Sarasota 3-0, and New Mexico Rush Nike 2-1. The team lost a tight game against the Las Vegas Surf Team in their semi-final match. At the end of regulation time the score was tied at 1-1, then both teams played through two overtime periods, and went into a penalty kick shoot-out. Sporting came-up short in the pk shoot-out but had a great showing at the event.
The Sporting ’93 Girls Team finished the tournament as Quarter-finalists in the U17 Super Group. They had a great run winning their first bracket game 2-1 over the Eastside FC Red 93 Team, then came from behind to defeat the CZ Elite Team 2-1, and lost 0-2 to Surf White. During their intensely fought quarter-final game against NorCal rivals the San Juan Spirits, the team came back to tie the game 1-1, fell behind 1-2 with a beautiful goal from Mariana Galvin. Then the game was shortened when Sporting’s midfielder Rachel Ometer was directly headed in the forward by a San Juan player; the resulting injury sent Rachel to the hospital but we are happy to report that she was released the next day and is recovering.
