Santa Clara Sporting 00B Green Team Win Far West Regionals & Were Semi-Finalists at US Nationals

June 2016 - The Santa Clara Sporting 00B Green Team (U15)  won a thrilling Far West Regional Championship game to claim the 2016 US Youth Soccer Region IV Finals in Boise, Idaho. This group of boys is coached by John Azevedo, and fought hard to come-back from a 0-1 deficit to beat the Rio Rapids Team (Arizona State Cup Champions) in an exciting 2-1 victory in overtime play. The Rio Rapids scored in the first half but Sporting never gave-up. In the 53rd minute of the U15 Finals match, a Santa Clara forward was dragged down in the Rio Rapids goal box, then Andrew Lirios-Ramos/Sporting converted the penalty kick into a goal to level the game at 1-1. Neither team could find the winning goal in the regulation time period so the game was sent into overtime, and Sporting took the lead when a Sporting shot on goal was deflected by the Rio Rapids keeper, and Francisco Dominguez /Santa Clara followed-up the loose ball in the box to win the game 2-1.

The Sporting 00B Green Team competed in the 2016 US Youth Soccer National Championships and ended their run as semi-finalists.
