Sporting 98B Black Win Dublin Fall Classic


The Santa Clara Sporting 98Boys Black Team prevailed in 100 degree weather playing three games on Sunday to win the 2012 Dublin Fall Classic. After having their Saturday first morning game rescheduled due to horrible field conditions to Sunday morning. They kicked off the tournament with a 5-1 win Saturday night over the California Odyssey South team scoring all 5 goals in the first 18 minutes of the first half.

Sunday morning they played the River City United Elite in a hard fought battle to end in a 1-0 win as the day started to heat up. The team then played again 2 hours later in the Semi’s as temperatures reached 95+ degrees to win 1-0 over Lamorinda FC making it to the Finals. With temperatures over 100 degrees they went on to the finals against Walnut Creek Crew just 3 hours later. This was the Crew’s second game of the day but Sporting’s third game. Quickly the Crew jumped out to a 3 goal lead in the first half.

The Sporting boys were not willing to give up after enduring a weekend of cancelled then rescheduled games, playing through horrible field conditions because of last minute scheduling, and100 degree heat.  The 98 Boys rallied at halftime to play for each other and for Sporting.

Down 3-0 at the start of the second half, Sporting scored within 3 minutes of the start in second half. They successfully scored their fourth goal with 5 minutes left to win a well-fought championship game with a 4-3 score in the 2012 Dublin Fall Classic.
