Sporting '99G White Team Reaches NorCal State Cup Finals

The Santa Clara Sporting ’99 Girls White Team won their NorCal State Cup quarter-final game in the White Division on Saturday, December 11th against the Sacramento United Blaze ’99G White Team.  Sporting and Sacramento played an intense game but neither team could score during regulation time. After two overtime periods the score was still 0-0, and penalty kicks would decide the outcome of the game. Santa Clara’s goalie stopped two goals for Sporting, and helped the team advance into Sunday’s Semi-final match against the Diablo FC ’99 Blue Team.

On Sunday, December 12th, the Santa Clara girls fought a tough battle against the Diablo FC ’99 Blue Team, and after playing 1 3/4’s of the game without either team scoring, it looked like the team was heading into another overtime game breaker situation. But with just three minutes left in regulation time, the girls went up 1-0 on a strike by Sophia Mendoza.

The team will play for the NorCal State Cup Championship in the White Division next Saturday, December 18th against the Placer Alliance FC Eureka Wildcats. Wish the girls luck!
