December 6, 2014 - Veronica Cashman and Demitri Cacoyannis were honored as the 2014 Santa Clara Sporting "Coach of the Year" award for their outstanding work this year.

The Sporting 97 Girls White Team won the Cal-North State Cup, the Surf Cup Tournament and the Sporting Girls Invitational duing the past two seasons.

Demitri Cacoyannis works tirelessly for the club and was recognized for his historic coaching job with the Santa Clara Sporting 95 Boys Team. The 95 Boys graduated last May and 18 boys were recruited to college soccer programs, and along the way his team won a record 6 consecutive Cal-North State Cup Championships, a Surf Cup title, numerous Sporting Invitational cups, were Finalists at Dallas Cup and the #1 Ranked Team in the US by GotSoccer.  He now coaches the Santa Clara Sporting 99 Girls Green Team, the 99 Boys Green Team and the 98 Girls Green Team. The 99 Girls just won Surf Cup last weekend, went undefeated in the U15 CRL to qualify for the 2015 Far West Regional Tournament in Idaho next June, and they won both the Cal-North and NorCal State Cup Tournaments. The 99 Boys also qualified early for the Far West Regional Tournament and won the 2014 Sporting Invitational this August. He also devotes his time and energy as the Sporting Girls Invitational Tournament Director.
